Good morning, y'all! Ready to get that righteous rage on? Let's do this thing!
Today's video:
I love the expression "the man box." It's a good one. For the record, it's not easy to find Feminist videos on Youtube as that community is apparently wall to wall misogyny most of the time. (I need to work on my filters over there. There are filters for that site, right?) Anyway, let's move on to those links.
This week's call to action list for Americans: Jen Hoffman's to do list. Top Priority: fight against the repeal of the ACA. Want more? Sign up for Indivisible's Guide.
Literary/Entertainment: Why do so many male journalists think female stars are flirting with them? Holy crap. That. I believe it's connected to the same mindset that if a woman gazes in the direction of a man at a nightclub, she's flirting with him. Sometimes the audacity of white males just floors me. Society does them a disservice by convincing them that they can have anything or anyone they want. I believe that by raising men in this mindset, society makes them psychologically fragile. They can't deal with rejection because any rejection threatens their status as Men™. "Men™ get what they want. I didn't get what I wanted. I must not be a man. OMG! If I'm not a man, I'm a woman! OMG! That's the worst thing anyone can be! Must fight against this at once with force!" Yeah. That goes hand in hand with "Boys are just accident prone." Bullshit. You've convinced them that they're above everyone and every thing. All they have to do is fight for what they want against all the odds. Then they're the hero. So, why would they acknowledge that even gravity is a factor? And people wonder why girls are less accident prone, more responsible, and get into trouble less? Perhaps there is a reason for it, and it isn't "girls are just smarter/more mature than boys at an early age." I often wonder why it is that girls are so much smarter and then we're supposed to believe that the instant puberty hits their IQ drops 25 points. Short of a head injury or a tumor, that's not how brains work, people. Emma Watson And Amanda Seyfried’s “Photo Hack” Is A Misogynistic Crime And We Should Talk About It Like One. Why isn't this shit filed as Hate Crime? Because it is. Next up, Helen Mirren Loves Wearing “Stripper Shoes”.
General: This first link is my favorite for the day--Court says Texas congressional districts gerrymandered to hurt minorities. The redrawing of districts in Texas is what led to my district being created in such a way that I am in the same district as a whole lot of empty space between Austin and Dallas. If you've no idea how long that narrow stretch of nothingness is...it takes 3.5 hours to drive to Dallas from Austin at highway speeds if there's no traffic. That is not how voting districts are supposed to be drawn. But the Republicans did it. Tom DeLay went to jail for it. Yet, Texas Republicans weren't forced to give up the map in question. I've long said that the combination of gerrymandered districts and the repeal of the voting rights act are what gave the Republicans the advantage in the last election. One or the other alone couldn't do it. It's the combination of the two. (Texas isn't the only state with this problem.) We'll see what happens once the districts are redrawn and the voting rights act is re-established. Of course, if Texas appeals it's going to the Supreme Court. That's worrisome, given the asshat picking justices at the moment. And a Twitter thread from @PiaGlenn which illustrates why it is not okay to hit on women in public. That is some scary shit, right there. No wonder Midlife Woman Loves Being Invisible To Men: BUST True Story. I have to admit that it's nice to not have to worry about constantly being hit on, touched inappropriately by strange men, followed, questioned, screamed at, leered at and so on any longer. It's freeing, frankly. It has it's issues too, mind you. Getting a little help when you need it is a problem. Also, invisibility in my line of work is a detriment. But at least I don't have to be terrified 24-7. STEVE COHEN RAMPING UP EFFORT TO REPLACE IDIOT HUMANS WITH MACHINES. No. Really. Just wow. Do I honestly need to remind you that the root word for "robot" is slave?[1] Welcome To The Anti-Racism Movement — Here’s What You’ve Missed.
