​General: 7,000 deaths in custody. Database shows how people died during encounters with the criminal justice system in Texas. If you look at that as part of the larger picture of our problematic criminal justice system (including the private prison system)...yeah. That's damned terrifying. And yes, if an overwhelming number of persons of color are in the system it is racist. Now, add into it the fact that they're now arresting people for unpaid student loan debt in Texas. And as if this wasn't bad enough, now drop in the fact that police are using military grade surveillance equipment. In addition, women are being incarcerated at dramatically increasing rates. Just...argggh! I'm scared of what the estrogen shortage might do to trans women like me. I have friends that this situation directly effects. Of kimono and cultural appropriation. Which is to say, the subject is complicated, damn it. Stop trying to make it simple.
