Have Some Happy

There's a story about this bakery in Japan on Tor.com and it makes me so happy. I'm a big Kiki's Delivery Service fan. Seriously, how can you not smile when you look at that?

I've a degree in animation, and I have much admiration for Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. (My other favorite animation studio is Pixar.) Kiki's is my favorite of his works. (Sorry, Melissa T. Yes, yes, I understand that should be My Neighbor Totoro.) The best thing about Kiki, for me, is how witches are portrayed. He gets the heart of witchcraft so right, even though he's clearly working with the fantasy. (It's clear someone did their homework when Kiki's mom blesses a potion by tracing a pentacle over it.) It's a beautiful, heartwarming film about a girl learning how to be independent and how to use her power. And this reminded me that I need to get it and My Neighbor Totoro on blue-ray. Maybe for my birthday at the end of the month?
In other news, the stupid migraines haven't gone away. On the upside, they have for a few weeks, until yesterday, restricted themselves to flashes of light on the edge of my vision--every couple of days. I can tolerate that. It's easy to ignore. There's no pain, really. And hypoglycemia seems to be a contributing factor. Unfortunately, if I took the meds they gave me every time I had an incident I'd be on the pills constantly and well...one shouldn't do that to one's brain. (I tend to look up meds that I take more than a couple of times. I'm cautious when it comes to my brain meats.) Sadly, yesterday was a bad day, and I woke up with a headache this morning. That neurologist appointment can't come soon enough.
