Good morning, y'all. Ready for those Feminist links? Right on! Let's go!

Today's first video is costume related and the second is about villains because... OCTOBER! :)
Literary/Art/Entertainment: Have a little girl that wants to be a realistic nurse for Halloween? How about yourself? Check this out: Mighty Girl's Halloween Costume Guide. Photographers upset by 'Ask First' stickers at BDSM event. Look, it's inconvenient, we know, but you have to acknowledge that we live in a different world than we used to. The internet is a thing. And what once was merely locally 'public' is now worldwide public and this is a problem that needs to be acknowledged. Plus, there are a number of disgusting individuals taking advantage of photographer privilege out there. So, while it may be legal to snap away without asking--it's not necessarily ethical. We need to talk about Tommy. I agree. If you're a public figure (and writers can be,) then you owe it to your fans to be careful of what messages you're sending--particularly if your audience is underaged. Angela Carter: Far from the Fairytale. Sarah MacLean: Bashing Romand Novels is Just Another Form of Slut-shaming. No one is saying that Romance as a genre doesn't have problems.[1] But the slut-shaming is out of control. Nisi Shawl, Everfair, and "About What I Did." Icon for Hire music video. The narrative of women in fear and pain by Kate Elliott. GQ's sexist climbing piece and the best response.

General: Republican Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore removed from office for gross misconduct. Note: it isn't a permanent removal--merely a suspension until the end of his term. So, a victory for gay marriage, but not a 100% victory. Texas newspaper destroys myth that HRC is lesser of two evils. There is no contest. Trump is evil. The end. Ex-Bush official (who served on investigative board re: Whitewater controversy) backs HRC for president. And Fear of a Woman President. Men are much more likely to think HRC isn't healthy enough to be president. I wrote that I despised HRC, now I want to publicly take that back. Stop pretending you don't know why people hate Hillary. Why even Republicans think Clinton won first debate. Even Black Preschool Teachers are Biased. That is the definition of internalized oppression. We're all indoctrinated. That's why I say think, dismantle that shit, and then don't let it use you as a tool to keep oppression going. Wisconsin is systemically failing provide the photo IDs required for voting in November. And that article is for those that thought there was nothing at all wrong with requiring a photo ID to vote. (grrr.) 18 question report may be a burden for a police officer that has just killed someone. Trump's Long History of Sexism. 10 Emotional Abuse Tactics Trump Used in First Debate. Last night's debate, or the mansplaining Olympics. Author tweets anger at daughter's history lesson. Teen accused of stealing 65 cent carton of milk at Middle School set to stand trial. Man shoots and kills wife, blames fear of black people. 25 year old woman makes possible breakthrough in antibiotic resistance. Yayayayay! But why is her age so important? It's not like they do that with men, do they? [cough] Sexist response to a Science Book Prize. What does 'Family Friendly' mean?

[1] Racism for one. And it can contain certain unexamined elements of toxic relationships for another. But no genre is perfect in that regard. The end.
