Happy October, y'all! Welcome to my favorite month of the year. I've a lot of writing to do. So, let's just jump in, shall we? Today's video has been around for seven years...but is still applicable. There's also a great (older) video on "ironic sexism" which drives home my objection to it. I had several conversations about it in 2009 and 2010. Whenever I discussed it with male colleagues in writing circles, I was met with the "get a sense of humor" response. [sigh]
And now for those links.

Literary/Entertainment: Hugh Hefner died last week and as I'm sure you can guess, I'm not a fan. I've a separate post I'm working on, but I'll drop this here anyway. Hugh Hefner, the murder of Dorothy Stratten and the dark side of Playboy. Super Awesome Sylvia was a role model to girls in science. Then he realized he is a boy. Being a role model for transgender youth in STEM is equally as important. More power to Zypherus. Thanks so much for everything you've done and still do. Submitting (SFF) While Black has disturbing statistics. (Yes, the article is a year old but is still worth reading..)

General: WOMEN AREN'T NAGS—WE'RE JUST FED UP. Emotional labor is the unpaid job men still don't understand. Next up, Michelle Obama Issues Strong Rebuke To Women Who Voted For Donald Trump. From the article: “Any woman who voted against Hillary Clinton voted against their own voice,” Obama told the audience. “It doesn’t say as much about Hillary, and everybody’s trying to worry about what it means for Hillary and no, no, no, what does this mean for us, as women? That we look at those two candidates, as women, and many of us said, ‘He’s better for me. His voice is more true to me.’ To me that just says, you don’t like your voice. You like the thing you’re told to like.” That sums up my feelings on the subject nicely... or not nicely. ;) Filed under history, have this article about Reconstruction. Deconstructing the Reconciliation Narrative of the Civil War. Lastly, Hurricane Harvey offers lessons Republicans will probably ignore.

Trigger Warning: South Korea: New generation joins 'comfort women' fight.
