Anticipation

What with the news becoming increasingly alarming,[1] I wanted to focus on something more upbeat this morning. [glances down at political sidetrack in footnotes] Well, mostly. Heh. So, things I'm looking forward to. Here goes.
Thank you, Netflix. Bright looks wonderful! I can't wait!
The Black Panther trailer makes me cry, I'm so happy to see it. Every time I watch it, I think of how powerful it was for me to see Wonder Woman. Every time, I think of how others are going to feel/are feeling, and I can't help being even more happy. These are the moments when I adore my genre.
Also, I'm so watching Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets in 3D. I don't care if the plot falls apart. I don't care that it probably won't make sense. I'd turning off my story brain and focusing on the fantastic visuals. I'm approaching it the same way I did Jupiter Ascending--that is, it's all about the visuals and gleeful world building gone banana-pants. I'm totally okay with that.
Idris Elba also-fucking-lutely rules as The Gunslinger.[3] I've been enjoying what was done with Neil Gaiman's American Gods. (Another book I didn't like that much. Yeah. It's true. I didn't like The Dark Tower.) I'm thrilled with the casting, y'all. Thrilled.
[sigh] Okay. She's obviously a Fighting Fuck Toy™, and I normally give those a pass. However, the martial arts in this film is spot on--the fight scenes are so perfect, and Charlize Theron does her own stunts. Plus, well, the trailer music is fab. ;)
Originally, I noped out due to the title. But I'm here to tell you I've come around now that I know the driver in question isn't a female. My friends tell me this: "What if Liam weren't Irish and IRA? What if he were American and working for the mob?" and I can totally see it. So, I'm going to. I've a feeling I'll love it even without '70s cars. ;)

[1] Add to this Trump's preemptive investigation into his executive power to pardon his team, including himself. Seriously, Republicans? At what point do you wake up and see the fascist uniform in the mirror?[2]
[2] The only reason I feel remotely reassured is that the Russia investigation is clearly getting closer and closer to home, if this is his reaction. For the cynics: yes, Trump has always gotten around the law before, somehow, but I'm a big believer in whatever goes around comes around. I see this as the Universe powering up a huge Mac Truck of Consequences. The rats are already starting to jump ship. As the picture of Russian collusion grows more and more focused, I predict a flood of rats. Why? Because conservatives are far more tribal than liberals. They value group loyalty above fairness for everyone for a start. (see this, this, and this) Conservatives are group followers. It might take a while, but once enough key "leaders" leave Trump and the party, there will be a mad rush.
[3] He reminds me of Blackthorne in my novel Blackthorne, actually. It's the hopeless determination to do the right thing schtick. I dig it so hard.
