Good morning, y'all! Ready for some righteous rage to go with that cup of coffee? Let's do this thing! Literary/Entertainment: Oscars 2016: 10 of the Best Quotes from the Night. I'm actually sad I missed it. To tell you the truth, I'm rather less than consistent about my Oscar Awards watching. Ever since I saw the Academy snub Star Wars in a big way I understood that that group had a bias and that that bias didn't actually reflect upon the quality of awarded films. It merely indicated that of the films the Academy preferred to watch and support, these were what they considered the best. And I have to say that's a lesson I've taken into my professional life too. There's plenty of fine work that gets ignored merely because of the race, sexual orientation, or gender of the individual artist. It's a bias that truly exists. It's time to admit that this is a factor. Anyway, I didn't pay attention this year because how many years are the Oscars gong to be The White People's Choice Awards? Mind you, I did worry that Chris Rock would get blamed for low TV ratings. (And I understand there are assholes who are.) And I wanted to show my support by watching. Sadly, I got distracted by other things and didn't snap that it was Oscars night until too late. Outrage Over Marvel's Iron Fist Casting Explained. From the article: "In 2009, the proportion of American women who were married dropped below 50 percent. In other words, for the first time in American history, single women (including those who were never married, widowed, divorced, or separated) outnumbered married women. Perhaps even more strikingly, the number of adults younger than 34 who had never married was up to 46 percent, rising 12 percentage points in less than a decade. For women under 30, the likelihood of being married has become astonishingly small: Today, only around 20 percent of Americans ages 18–29 are wed, compared to nearly 60 percent in 1960." It deconstructs the powerful affect single women have had and are having on America's political, economic, and civil rights arenas. This is the very thing that Feminism was created to do.
