Good morning, y'all. I hope you had a lovely weekend. Are you ready to get rolling? I am. I've got fictitious space marines to be mean to this morning. Let's go!

Today's videos:
And now for those links.

Entertainment/Literary: It's October! So let's think about Horror at bit. Horror Blackademics: Candyman's Revenge On Gentrification has some great points and questions for discussion. American Heart, Huck Finn, and the Trap of White Supremacy. First off, if you're a white author and you chose to write a story based on Huckleberry Finn you're walking directly into a racial quagmire. You'd better do extra homework.  If you don't, then you shouldn't act surprised when the backlash slaps you square in the face. Seriously, don't do that. For the record, I loved that book as a kid, but I'll be the first to say that it shouldn't be taught in schools. Choose something else. Something that isn't wall to wall racism. Mind you, I wouldn't remove it from bookshelves. Just don't force children of color to read it, FFS. The YA dystopia boom is over. It’s been replaced by stories of teen suicide. My agent, Barry Goldblatt, disagrees with that statement, by the way, but hey, it's an interesting discussion.

General: I'm glad to see a movement toward giving emotional support to women who have abortions. In Deep Red America, The Rise of the Abortion Doula. And have yet another disturbing article about police shootings: Excited. Delirious. Dead. This next link is history repeating itself. (They did exactly the same thing to the Black Panthers.) We say black lives matter. The FBI says that makes us a security threat. And now Quebec decides to prove that evil and bigoted can exist north of the US too. Muslim Women In Quebec Are Now Effectively Banned From Wearing The Niqab And Burqa. The next article may be out of date because the case is ongoing. The last I heard, the teen was not being allowed the abortion. Frankly, the entire argument from the opposition is constructed of disingenuous arguments. As if they'd be all about paying anything to support the resulting child of an undocumented mother. But sure, force her to go home where abortions are illegal. U.S. judge orders Trump administration to allow abortion for undocumented teen. And I very much agree with the next article. Want to Fight Rape Culture? Start With Men. The biggest reason for rape culture is, in fact, toxic masculinity. We need to teach men how to be human beings. No change will happen before then. Also read: The Movement of #MeToo. Next, WBEZ Investigation: CPS Secretly Overhauled Special Education At Students’ Expense.

Trigger Warning: POLICE REPORTEDLY CLAIM A BROOKLYN TEEN CONSENTED TO SEX IN CUSTODY. THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE. And Olympic Gymnast McKayla Maroney Says She Was Molested For Years By Team Doctor. The Entertainment Industry Protects Abusers.
