Sorry for being late today. Am not feeling terribly well today. I've a sore throat, and my fat tonsils are just a bit fatter which makes it difficult to swallow. It's best to get this out of the way now, though. I've Armadillocon at the end of the month. Anyway, let's get to those links, shall we?

Today's video:
I can relate. My ex-boyfriend once said, "Stina Deep down inside, you're a hippy." I thanked him. He then said, "I didn't mean it as a compliment." ;)
Literary/Entertainment: Ursula K. Le Guin calls on Fantasy writers to envision alternatives to capitalism. Of Mice and Minions: Why Are All the Cartoon Minions Male? Here's a great discussion of one of my favorite Horror films, The Final Girls. Subverting "The Final Girls." Book list for black girls II. An Apartheid of the Imagination. 5 reasons Dredd is secretly feminist.

General: Employees describe slipping into homelessness while working at REI. I worked at an independent bookstore for years and witnessed many long term full-time employees being mistreated. We were paid less than minimum wage. (Don't ask me how. We didn't work for tips.) The insurance coverage was a joke. It was super expensive and never covered anything. One employee, who had worked there for more than ten years, almost died of high blood pressure because he couldn't afford the medication and the insurance--expensive insurance--didn't cover a fucking thing. I was all right because I had my husband's insurance. Thank the gods because I came down with cancer while working at the bookstore. I might not be here today, were it not for my husband for multiple reasons. That said, I very much believe the REI story. Senate Approves Carla Hayden as Librarian of Congress. Taking a stand in Baton Rouge. Why Black Lives Matter founders are among the World's Greatest Leaders. Dallas Mayor calls bullshit on Open Carry. Study: White people react to evidence of white privilege by claiming greater personal hardships. That's true. I've witnessed it time and again. Baton Rouge: Put those weapons down! No, you are not part Cherokee, and neither is Elizabeth Warren. I won't keep your secrets any longer. Hand bags and kitten heels. How not to write about a Prime Minister. Working while pregnant is awful.

Trigger Warning: (for racism) Violent misogynist propaganda postcards.
