Happy first Monday of December, y'all! Ready for those links? Let's do that thing. First up, today's video:
Entertainment/Literary: This interview is an interesting read. DON’T ROMANTICIZE SCIENCE FICTION: AN INTERVIEW WITH SAMUEL DELANY. Sarah Gailey writes about Fear of the Female Voice on Tor.com. It's a brilliant article. Definitely read it. Next, Some Thoughts on Art, Selfishness, and the Sinking Ship, by Anne Nesbet. Book piracy and you. As it turns out, it isn't harmless after all. Here's proof. Next, 20 Authors I Don’t Have to Read Because I’ve Dated Men for 16 Years is damned funny. And while I did learn a lot from Slaughterhouse Five I couldn't get into Sirens of Titan due to all the misogyny. Don't even get me started on Lolita. Just don't. The next story? This is so not OK. So, VERY not OK. CB CEBULSKI’S ASIAN MASK: WHY THE ANGER? See also: New Marvel Comics EIC C.B. Cebulski Admits He Wrote As “Akira Yoshida” 13 Years Ago. And Producers Blast Lars von Trier’s Production Company for “Toxic Masculinity”. Lastly, Historically, men translated the Odyssey. Here’s what happened when a woman took the job.

General: US charter schools put growing numbers in racial isolation. Yikes. I'm a big believer in public schools, and I don't believe in private school vouchers either. If you want to pay to put your kid in a private school, fine. But don't expect taxpayers to pay you back. Overall, school taxes are for the general population's education for the good of all. They are not directly linked to the education of specific children. Next up: 1 in 4 men don't think exposing themselves constitutes sexual harassment, survey finds. I wish I was surprised, but I'm not. Apparently, men have never been told that sexual harassment is also verbal--not just touching. And they don't understand that following women is also harassment. [sigh] That explains why so many men objected to the expression "Schrödinger's Rapist", and yet so many women thought it fit the concept of dating quite well. (I used to have panic attacks before every first date.) Police shot Oklahoma City deaf man five times. My hope is that one day soon the police will stop thinking of themselves as beleaguered soldiers and go back to being Peacekeepers. And as if that wasn't awful enough have a look at: Why the UN is investigating extreme poverty … in America, the world's richest nation. Here's hoping that it spurs positive action. Donations and Women in Tech Panels are NOT a Diversity Strategy. Do Better. And The Men Who Cost Clinton the Election. This next article is damned funny. A FAIR ACCUSATION OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT OR A WITCH HUNT? Also, The sexual harassment conversation needs to move to the next level. And James Baldwin, I Am Not Your Negro and the construction of race. And a worrying story: Vote Suppressors Unleashed. And yet another reason why diversity should not be the responsibility of those who are being held back by bias. How Faculty of Color Hurt Their Careers Helping Universities with Diversity. And ‘Mister Journalist, I Gave You All the Clues’: How White Journos Keep Getting Punked By Nazis. Lastly, Women Aren't Nags—We're Just Fed Up.

Trigger Warning: When Black Women's Stories Of Sexual Abuse Are Excluded From The National Narrative. This is a big, big problem. Frankly, I feel R. Kelly should have consequences for the abuse he's perpetrated. Roy Moore Accuser Writes Powerful Open Letter: ‘Where Does Your Immorality End?’
