Feminist Monday + Another Update

So, I'm finally in the very last section of the novel in progress--which is great, since I'm turning it in soon. I'm really happy with how this one is turning out. It's taken a lot of work and rework and rework and I'm sure there are loose threads still at this point--holy crap mosaic plot novels are a bitch, but I do love them. Just know that there's a reason that it takes George R.R. Martin to write those tomes. Anyway...yay! There's an end in sight! And I'll even have time to go over it once more before I turn it in. Mwhahahahaha! That said, I should be able to go back to blogging after the first week of June. Even so, I think I may change the blog to three times a week. It seriously takes up a lot of my writing time. And well...I'd rather use that time writing stories. They're certainly more interesting than me nattering on about politics or the cat.

And now...Feminist Monday.
Today's video is about Daria.
I loved Daria. (I'd buy the DVDs but apparently the original music didn't make it in.) Yeah. Yeah. I'm Gen X. Get over it.
Literary/Entertainment: Filed under "shit you should never say in public" this: "The BBC Radio 4 “Open Book”program recently characterized alternate history as “an exclusively male domain in terms of authorship.” While some exceptions were noted, including speculative fiction by Ursula Le Guin, Margaret Atwoodand Marge Piercy, neither the presenter nor her guest appeared familiar with more recent alternate history books by women." No seriously. The instant anything resembling "women can't _______"[1] or "there are no women who write SF" or whatever attempts to escape your mouth...don't. Just do the world a favor and don't. You'll look less like an uninformed, bigoted, asshole that way.  Or not. There is that whole 'let your freak flag fly.' thing. It does make it easier for the rest of us to avoid your ass. Kind of like Trump supporters. Speaking of stupid shit, can we just start believing women already? In the Wake of Johnny Depp's Alleged Abuse, #ImWithAmber Calls Out Hollywood Hypocrisy. This on the heels of the Cosby thing. How many times do we need to go through this shit before the public starts believing women? Satirical erotica author Chuck Tingle's massive troll of conservative sci-fi fans, explained. I'm all in favor of nominating Tingle for Best Related Work next year. (Check it out.) Seriously. He's doing the community a service. Also? This: One way of looking at the Hugo Awards mess. These 15 Fantasy Novels by Female Authors are Electrifying the Genre. What's so classic about this next link is in the original article they totally forgot that other directors who happen to be women have actually had the same film budget--Academy Award Nominated women, no less. And not even from all that long ago too. This is what erasure looks like. Thus, the author had to edit the title (originally "...first film directed by..") and the article as a whole right away. 'Wonder Woman' Is One of the Few Films Directed by a Woman With a $100 Million Budget. Asian-American Actors Are Fighting for Visibility. They Will Not Be Ignored.

General: 5 Historically Badass Women We Salute This Memorial Day. Meet the Black Woman Architect Behind the New Smithsonian Museum. Why Trans Male Model Sawyer DeVuyst Starred In A Period Underwear Ad. White Men Working at the Washington Post Make Way More Money Than Their Peers. And Guild finds pay lagging for Times minority, women workers. And Under pressure, the Wall Street Journal pledges to wipe out its race and gender pay gaps. When women can be misogynist trolls, we need a feminist internet. And Research reveals huge scale of social media misogyny. THE ‘BLUE LIVES MATTER’ BILL IS BULLSHIT. I wrote several articles last year about why this whole stance is bullshit. Look up the statistics and you'll see why. The information isn't that difficult to find. 30% of Female Doctors Have Been Sexually Harassed. The Babayagas’ house, a feminist alternative to old people’s homes, opens in Paris. Filed under Men's Health is not the default setting: So, I had a heart attack … And continuing the theme re: women's health: 10 Female Orgasm Myths You Actually Believed. Female genital mutilation harms women. So why are there so few medical options for reducing that harm? I have to pull the false equivalency card on those who prefer the term "female circumcision." In male circumcision, the whole sexual organ is not removed. Also, as bad as it is, the point of it isn't to prevent sexual stimulation either. I'll stop there. A Supreme Court case about juries could have a big impact on racism in the justice system. For those who still believe that Libertarianism is working: The numbers are staggering: US is ‘world leader’ in child poverty. And Minimum Wage Workers Can’t Afford Rent Anywhere In The Country. I'll give you three guesses whose more likely to be working a minimum wage job (or 3.) It starts with single and ends with mothers. Last but not least... Suspension Bridges – Invented by a Woman--along with the system for removing barnacles off ship's bottoms, but who's counting?
------------------------------------------------------
[1] Example: Women can't be funny. Women can't write Hard SF. Women can't...oh...I don't know...be human beings.
